Independence Anniversary: Obot Akara Council Boss Calls for Unity, Takes Salute at the Parade

The Chairman Obot Akara Local Government Council, Hon. (Lady) Agnes Udoenwenwen has called on Nigerians to come together to build the nation and to reactivate the spirit of resilience to attend the goals of unity, prosperity and purposeful nation in the face of 21st-century opportunities and challenges.

Lady Udoenwenwen made the call on Thursday in her welcome address for the opening ceremony of the Nigeria’s 61st Independence Anniversary at Obot Akara Stadium, Ikot Eyem.

Lady Udoenwenwen said 61st Independence anniversary celebration is very significant to the political, social and economic history of Nigeria, adding that 1st October each year is an ample opportunity for Nigerians to thank God for His endless blessings to the country.

She stressed that Independence Anniversary is a good time for Nigerians to collectively remember the sacrifices made by the Founding Fathers and great Leaders past in building and maintaining the unity of Nigeria since 1960. “We should all therefore give thanks and pray for our founding fathers for without their efforts and toil we would not reap the bounties of today”. She added.

She maintained that Nigeria is blessed with human and material resources and appreciated Nigerians most especially Akwa Ibom people for making waves all over the world in different fields of human endeavors despite the multiple challenges of the country.

Hon. Udoenwenwen congratulated his Excellency, President Muhammadu Buhari on 61st Independence anniversary of Nigeria and appreciated His Excellency, Mr. Udom Emmanuel for providing qualitative, impactful and selfless leadership to Akwa Ibom State.

She noted that Obot Akara Local Government Area is a great beneficiary of his shared objectives, successful human and capital development and numerous projects and programmes captured in Governor Udom Emmanuel’s Completion Agenda and cautioned the citizens to be good ambassadors of the State and to key into the brand new dream of Akwa Ibom State and Nigeria at Large.

At the match pass to celebrate Nigeria’s Independence, Government School, Nsebe came first while Government School, Ikot Mmem and Government School, Abak Ukpom came second and third respectively in Primary School category. In Nursery School category, St. Andrew Nursery School, Nto Edino came first, Reformed Baptist School, Ibong Okpo Eto came second while Access Point Nursery School. In Nursery School category, Community Secondary school, Nto Edino came first, Abiakpo Comprehensive Secondary School, Ikot Ukana came second while Comprehensive High School, Ikpe Mbak Eyop came third.

Other dignitaries at the Independence Anniversary Celebration were, Vice Chairman Obot Akara Local Government Council, Hon. Uduak Akpan, Secretary of State Council, Hon. Agustin Esau, Leader of the Council, Hon. Mary Moses Akpana, Councillors, Supervisors, political class, Traditional Rulers, paramilitary, uniform organisations, School children among others.
