Adult Student Advocate – Mott Community College (Flint, MI)
Do you have a passion for helping adults achieve their educational goals? MCC is seeking a dedicated Adult Student Advocate to join our supportive team. In this pivotal role, you’ll play a key role in ensuring the success of our adult learner population.
What You’ll Do
- Provide comprehensive support services to adult students, focusing on enrollment, persistence, retention, and graduation.
- Offer proactive guidance and track academic progress to help students stay on track.
- Understand the unique challenges faced by adult learners, balancing school, work, family, and life.
- Develop individualized success plans (ISPs) to guide each student’s educational journey.
- Advocate for student needs, removing barriers to success and fostering a positive learning environment.
- Collaborate closely with other departments to navigate students smoothly through college onboarding, orientation, enrollment, and academic support.
- Actively engage and empower adult learners, helping them achieve their academic and career aspirations.
You’re a Perfect Fit If You Have
- A bachelor’s degree.
- Two years of experience working with adult learners in higher education or similar settings.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and advocacy skills (written and oral).
- Excellent organizational, problem-solving, decision-making, and critical thinking abilities.
- Proficient in Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Google Suite (Zoom, Google Meet).
- Experience with web-based software and resources.
Bonus Points for
- Master’s degree in education, counselling, social work, or a related field.
- Experience working in a one-stop student services environment.
- Familiarity with developing Individual Success Plans (ISPs).

Work Environment
- Full-time, 40 hours per week (flexible schedule including days, evenings, and weekends to meet student needs).
- Some travel may be required.

- This is a 12-month grant-funded position, subject to renewal based on performance.
