2021-2022 Japan-World Bank Graduate Scholarship Program – World Bank Member Developing Countries are eligible to apply for the Joint Japan World Bank Graduate Scholarship Program 2021-2022. The scholarship covers master’s level programs in Multi-Subject, Development-Related Topics at universities in Japan, the United States, and Africa. See the list’s detailed description for more information. The scholarship deadline is May 21, 2021.
Students from developing countries with appropriate professional experience and a history of supporting their nations’ development efforts who are applying to a master’s degree program in a development-related area are eligible for the Joint Japan/World Bank Graduate Scholarship Program (JJ/WBGSP).

Students from developing nations that are members of the World Bank are eligible.

Criteria for Eligibility:
Details on Eligibility Criteria are published in the Application Guidelines for each call for applications, and these precise eligibility criteria are scrupulously followed. There are no exceptions.
In general, nationals of developing countries must:
Be a citizen of a developing country on this list that is a World Bank member;
Holding dual citizenship in any civilized country is not permitted;
Maintain a healthy lifestyle;
Have a Bachelor’s (or equivalent) degree that was acquired at least three years before the Application Deadline;
After receiving a Bachelor’s (or similar) degree, have 3 years or more of recent development-related employment experience;
At the time of applying for the scholarship, you must be working in paid full-time development-related employment. Have completed at least 3 years of paid development-related work since acquiring a Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent university degree) within the previous 6 years of the Application Deadline. Please visit the FAQs for information on how to count qualifying part-time work toward the three-year requirement. A proposed list of development-related subjects can be found in Annex 2 of the Application Guidelines. Only developing country nationals from countries on the list of Fragile and Conflict States in Annex 3 of the Application Guidelines are exempt from this criterion. We do take into account the limited employment options in the countries specified in Annex 3 in these exceptional instances.

Be admitted unconditionally (except for funding) for the upcoming academic year to at least one of the JJ/WBGSP participating master’s programs located outside of the applicant’s country of citizenship and country of residence listed at the time the call for scholarship applications opens on or before the Scholarship Application Deadline date. Not be an Executive Director, his/her alternate, and/or staff of any World Bank Group appointment, or a close relative by blood or adoption of the aforementioned, with “close relative” defined as Mother, Father, Sister, Half-sister, Brother, Half-brother, Son, Daughter, Aunt, Uncle, Niece, or Nephew.
Please notice that all qualifying requirements are rigorously followed. There are no exceptions. During an open call for applications, the eligibility conditions will not alter. However, between the closing of one application procedure and the opening of the next, this information is subject to change.
