Responsibilities

• Budget Management: Develop, monitor, and manage the section’s operating budget to support the group or office’s overall operating budget and forecast updates.
• Leadership and Development: Oversee the management, growth, and professional development of the engineering section. Coordinate section activities, set priorities, and allocate staff to projects. Ensure staff development, mentoring, and training needs are met. Collaborate with other sections and departments within the office for work-sharing needs and opportunities.
• Strategic Implementation: Support the implementation of the firm’s strategic plan and HNTB’s Sophisticated Sales Approach (SSA) process on project pursuits in the section and office, including developing section-level strategic planning strategies.
• Contracting and Delivery Support: Assist with the implementation of the firm’s contracting (SCA) process through project delivery and contracting activities, including scope, work plan, and fee reviews for all contracting activities impacting the section.
• Project Delivery: Support the implementation of the firm’s project delivery (SDA) process, including work planning, monthly project reviews, and other project performance methods to ensure quality work is delivered on time and to the client’s satisfaction.
• Marketing and Client Relations: Assist with marketing responsibilities, including client discovery, proposal generation, interviews, and win-to-work activities. Maintain client contacts to ensure client satisfaction.
• Staff Management: Recruit, hire, develop, and retain section staff. Develop plans for staff reporting, performance and compensation reviews, and succession planning.
• Project Management: Manage assigned project management activities (project scope, schedule, budget, and quality management) and perform technical discipline tasks, including research, reports, design, specifications, and plan preparation.
• Other Duties: Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Education and Experience: Bachelor’s degree in engineering with 8 years of practical experience, including 2 years of leadership experience.

Preferred

• Certification: Professional Engineer (PE) certification.
• Practice Building: Ability to serve as a practice builder and client project manager for traffic services, particularly for HNTB’s South Florida clients, including FDOT District 4, FDOT District 6, local municipalities, and others.
• Traffic Studies: Experience in reviewing and preparing traffic studies, including operational assessments, signal analysis, and safety reviews.
• Data Analysis: Proficiency in analyzing traffic data and recommending improvements for transportation systems.
• FDOT Knowledge: Familiarity with FDOT procedures, standards, and guidelines related to traffic operations and safety.
• Industry Relationships: Established relationships within the South Florida transportation/traffic market.
